The first reports of the outage appeared on the Downdetector website, noting failures affecting AWS and associated services, including Epic Games, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Electronic Arts, and Amazon itself. The disruptions began around 1:00 pm ET.
According to Meristation’s website, it was confirmed that the issue lies with Amazon’s central servers, meaning the outage is not related to individual devices, internet connections, or login credentials. Users attempting typical troubleshooting methods, such as restarting routers, computers, or mobile phones, will find these measures ineffective while the incident persists.
AWS powers the cloud infrastructure for thousands of companies and applications, from social media to online gaming. When the system goes down, services reliant on its servers, regardless of the companies operating them, are unable to function, leaving users facing connection errors or service interruptions.
The timing of the outage adds to the potential disruption, coming just days before Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping periods of the year in the United States and internationally. Analysts warn that the outage could create chaos for online transactions, gaming, and digital communications during the critical holiday shopping window.
As of now, no solution exists on the user side, and the onus is on Amazon to restore its infrastructure.
