Chef Marlene Vieira is the winner of the Revelation Award at the 37th edition of the Dona Antónia Awards, announced this Wednesday, November 26th, in Vila Nova de Gaia. The distinction is part of the “Mulheres Ferreirinha” portfolio, which celebrates personalities whose career reflects courage, vision and social impact, values associated with the figure of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira.

The Dona Antónia Awards are much more than recognition. They are a symbol of human and female empowerment”, stated Mafalda Guedes, director of Corporate Communication and Sustainability at Sogrape, adding that each awardee “represents the boldness of dreaming and the strength to achieve, values that Dona Antónia left as a timeless legacy”.

Created in 1988 by the descendants of Dona Antónia and Sogrape, the awards highlight women whose actions contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of the country. Since 2014, the initiative has annually highlighted figures who identify with the humanist and entrepreneurial legacy of the historic Douro producer.

The distinction comes in a remarkable year for the chef who, in February, became the first Portuguese woman of the century – alongside Rita Magro – to win a Michelin star. The distinction was awarded to the Marlene restaurant, in Lisbon, at the gala held in Porto.

Later, in an interview with News Diarythe chef spoke about her journey in gastronomy and the importance of women increasingly occupying spaces of power in Portuguese kitchens.
