Jair Bolsonaro began, on the afternoon of this Tuesday, November 25th, to serve the effective prison sentence of 27 years and four months to which he was sentenced for attempted coup d’état and other crimes.

“I determine the beginning of serving the sentence, in an initial closed regime”, decided Alexandre de Moraes, judge of the Supreme Court, hours after the court declared the case final, when no further appeals are possible.

In addition to Bolsonaro, who will remain in the Federal Police superintendence room where he was serving preventive detention after having forced the electronic bracelet, the Federal Police of Brazil arrested, this Tuesday, two generals — and former ministers — of Bolsonaro condemned alongside the former president.

Augusto Heleno, who was minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet, and Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, who held the Defense portfolio, were sent to the Planalto Military Command, in Brasília.

Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice, and Admiral Almir Garnier, former Navy commander, also saw the STF close their respective cases, and will serve their sentences in Papuda prison and in command of the Navy, respectively.

Alexandre Ramagem, former head of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency who is on the run in the USA, is another who was arrested.

Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s aide who signed a plea agreement with the police, is still awaiting appeals.

Of the eight convicted in the main group of the coup d’état, General Braga Netto, former minister and candidate for Bolsonaro’s vice president, was the only one already detained, since December 2024.
